Helicopter operation could cause road delays in South Vancouver, says city

The City of Vancouver says roads will be closed and sidewalks restricted around Ash Park in South Vancouver Saturday, with the possibility of closures stretching into Sunday.

The delays relate to a helicopter transporting industrial air conditioning equipment to and from the roof of a building on Cambie Street near West 64th Avenue.

“The operation will make four flights to and from the building,” the city said in a news release.

“Weather permitting, each flight will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete and the largest piece of equipment being lifted will weigh approximately 6,500 pounds.

The specific area affected runs from Lord Street at West 65th Avenue to SW Marine Drive.

The city says residents and businesses may have to deal with noise from the aircraft.

As well, the operations could create a visual distraction for drivers.

Bus and SkyTrain service will not be affected, the city says.
