Police release identity of Surrey fatal stabbing victim

Police have released the identity of a Surrey fatal stabbing victim with hopes of advancing their investigation.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified the victim as Jason Richard Gill, a 47-year-old man from Surrey.

Surrey RCMP said they responded to a complaint of a fight in the 6600-block of King George Boulevard just after 11:50 p.m. PT Tuesday.

They found Gill suffering from stab wounds and he died at the scene despite the efforts of first responders.

IHIT investigators said Thursday that the investigation is still in its early stages, but they don’t believe it to be related to gang conflict. Police also believe the case to be isolated in nature, according to a Wednesday press release.

Police said the motivation behind the stabbing is unclear, and it is unknown whether the two individuals knew each other before the fight.

Police described the suspect in the case as a clean-shaven white man with short, sandy blond hair who stands about six feet tall.

IHIT investigators said they are seeking witnesses, dashcam or surveillance video in the area of the 6600 Block of King George Boulevard between Tuesday at 11 p.m. and Wednesday at 3 a.m. They are asking anyone with information to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
