A large crash forced the closure of the southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway Sunday.
DriveBC reported the incident online just before 6 p.m. The incident is located south of Merritt, between Exit 286 and Exit 250: Larson Hill.
Drivers are being detoured to get around the southbound closure. Meanwhile, DriveBC says northbound travellers can “expect major delays.”
Images of the crash have been shared on X. They show a large vehicle, which appears to be a semi or other commercial truck, on fire, completely damaged.
Parts of the median are also seen pushed into the northbound lanes. It’s unclear if the truck struck the median and sent them into the oncoming direction.
Authorities have not said whether anyone has been injured.
Emergency crews are on scene, with no estimated time of reopening announced. DriveBC says another update is expected around 8 p.m. Sunday.
