Roundup of Business at City Council for the week of May 29, 2023 & Updates to the Procedure By-law

City Council met this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during Council, and Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities.

Vancouver City Council has recently updated the Procedure By-law to streamline Council proceedings. Public hearings scheduled on Thursdays will start at 1 pm, instead of 6 pm. Members motions will be placed on Standing Committee agendas on Wednesdays. Registered speakers will have three minutes to address Council. Should a registered speaker require additional time to accommodate accessibility needs, the Chair has discretion to allow more time. Council then approved By-laws 1-14, (28 MB) By-laws 15 and 16, (631 KB) and an Administrative Motion – Resolution – Zoning and Development By-law Amendments to Rezone Areas from RS-1 and RT-1 to RM-8A and RM-8AN. (727 KB)

The Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities began with the approval of the following reports on consent: 

After that, the Standing Committee received a presentation on 2023 Transportation & Public Space Directors’ Update, (18 MB) then approved the following reports and Member’s Motions:

A Council meeting was convened immediately following the Standing Committee meeting in which Council approved the recommendations and actions of the preceding Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities.
