Police have taken a suspect into custody in relation to an arson that destroyed a Surrey mobile home and left a single mother stranded.
On June 20, mounties and fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire at a mobile home park near 82 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
Resident Melissa Sheard told CityNews at the time that she received the news of the fire from the manager of the park shortly after.
“She’s like, don’t come here right now, because the fire’s out of control, so there’s nothing you can do,” Sheard said in June.
Sheard and her daughter’s home and belongings were completely destroyed in the fire.
“I don’t even have a single picture of a family member. I literally have nothing in this world, all my shoes, clothes. I don’t even have a toothbrush, my glasses that I just paid over $1,000 for, and I don’t have that kind of money to do it again,” she said in June.
Now the Surrey RCMP says a man has been arrested and charged with two counts of arson to property and one count of uttering threats.
Corp. Sarbjit K. Sangha said in an update Thursday the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit located the suspect last week. He says the man has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
No one was injured in the fire, but Sheard said in June she wasn’t sure where she was going to go after losing everything.
“My next steps are just to process this and move past it, I guess. I don’t know how what I’m going to do,” she said.
